I’ve posted so many photos from this set but they all came out so well that it’s hard not to. This was The 1975’s first US show ever I believe. It was the first night of SXSW. I was so exhausted - I had ridden on a band’s bus down from Minneapolis and didn’t sleep one bit. We got into Austin at like 5 am and I didn’t have anywhere to stay so I went to the river and watched the sunrise, that was pretty cool. I met up with people all day and by the time this show started it was like 40 hours since I last slept but this was the coolest showcase of SXSW so there was no way I was missing it. It was Bastille, Lucy Rose, Tall Ships, and Willy Moon - all UK artists (Zane Lowe’s showcase).
So I show up at this thing and it’s this tiny club with maybe 300 people in it and they’re all from England and Scotland. Was heaven, honestly (drinks were free too. Weren’t serving fish n chips though; I was a bit disappointed.). I had to push my way to the front for The 1975 and I felt bad about it honestly but no way I was missing it. It was their first ever US show I believe - same with Bastille and possibly the rest of the bands too. Anyway The 1975 were insane, corny to say but I knew right then that they were going to be something crazy. I’ve never been more excited about seeing a band and I’ve seen a lot of bands. It was one of those things where you watch them and every 30 seconds you’re like ‘fuuuuuuuuck’ ‘cause it’s so good. Bastille was just as incredible as well. I spent the rest of the week trying to convince people to come see The 1975 with me and I saw them like 5 times. Most exhausting week of my life but so worth it. By the end I couldn’t even walk and I think I fell asleep standing against a wall when I was waiting to get picked up on the way home. Would highly recommend the experience to anyone.
